Science Fiction Oldies, Goldies, and New Masters

I read Science Fiction, and I write Science Fiction. Science fiction has a many definitions as there are people who want to define it. Robert Heinlein said that SF was “Realistic speculation about possible future events, based solidly on adequate knowledge of the real world, past and present, and on a thorough understanding of the nature and significance of the scientific method.” My working definition of SF is closer to Theodore Sturgeon’s: “A good science fiction story is a story about human beings, with a human problem, and a human solution, that would not have happened at all without its science content.” Like most people, though, we know what science fiction is and what it isn’t. So, this group is mostly to discuss SF and to review SF novels, oldies, goldies, and from new masters.

Self-Editing and Critique

While the editors on BookGarage are not going to edit your entire book for free, section by section, most of us would be happy to give you feedback on your blurbs, synopses, and random sections of your book. Feel free to post material less than 500 words in length, or ask for help in understanding any facet of English grammar or style! Anyone is welcome to join. If you post material that some may prefer not to read (horror, erotica, socially unacceptable subject matter [torture, rape, abuse], etc.), please preface your post with a trigger warning.
